Community

Ask the mothers who’ve been there.

A moderated place to ask what it’s really like. Mothers near your stage come first, mothers further along tell you what’s coming, and you post under a nickname, in English, Hindi or Hinglish.

How your feed works

One community, sorted around you.

From 4 weeks pregnant to parents of 2-year-olds. Every post keeps the stage its writer was at, so it still makes sense to a mother reading it months later.

Near you first

Mothers within about a month of you come first, then everyone else. Your questions reach the people living them right now.

Help mothers behind you

Reply to someone earlier than you and your reply says “Been there”. Mothers still waiting for a first reply are shown to you.

Meri saas ne bhi yahi kaha tha! My doctor said the usual amount in cooking is fine, but extra ghee doesn’t make delivery easier. I told mummy-ji the doctor said so, and that ended it nicely.

Everyone says enjoy this time, but I’m so anxious about the delivery. Is that normal?

Bilkul normal. I worried before every visit. Talking through the birth plan with my doctor helped a lot, and so did Nani’s breathing exercises at night. You’re doing great.

One tap tells a mother she isn’t the only one. Sometimes that’s the reply she needed.

Your privacy

A nickname, not your name.

Your chats with Nani are private. The community is different: everyone in it can read what you post, so you pick a nickname, and nothing else about you is shown.

Kept safe

Kind, careful, and checked every day.

The community gets the same checks as your chats with Nani. Other mothers share what helped them; your doctor still decides.

Every post is checked first

Danger signs, medicine doses and personal details are caught before anyone reads them.

Urgent? You get help at once

If a post sounds urgent, the help card shows straight away. You don’t wait for replies.

People, not just filters

The Nani team reviews the posts that need a check, every day.

Report anything

What you report disappears for you at once, and a moderator looks at it. Nobody is told who reported.

If a rule is broken, a moderator may ask you to change a post, remove it with a note saying why, or pause your posting for a few days.

Ask the community

Since this morning there’s some bleeding. Is this normal at 30 weeks?

If you post it, the Nani team checks it first.

Only you will see it until then. Please don’t wait for replies:

The community rules

Seven rules, agreed before you join.

They’re pinned at the top of the feed, and each one is there for a reason. Tap a rule to see why.

  1. 1Be kind. Every pregnancy is different.

Mothers here are tired, worried and often far from family. A kind word goes a long way.

  2. 2Share experience, not medicine doses.

What was right for one mother can harm another. Share what helped; leave the dose to the doctor.

  3. 3No phone numbers, links or selling.

To keep everyone’s details private, and the community free of ads and strangers.

  4. 4No guessing or finding out the baby’s sex.

The law (the PCPNDT Act) forbids it, and every baby is welcome here.

  5. 5If something feels wrong, don’t wait for replies.

Other mothers can’t check on you. Ask Nani, call your doctor, or call 112. The help card shows up by itself if your post sounds urgent.

  6. 6Mothers at every stage read this. Be gentle with hard stories.

A mother at 8 weeks may read your birth story. Hard stories are welcome; start with a line like “This was a hard birth” so others can choose to read on.

  7. 7Report anything unsafe.

Reports are private. What you report disappears for you at once, and a moderator looks at it.

    Read the rules

Seven of them, each with the reason why.

  2. 2

    Pick a nickname

The only name the community sees. Nani suggests one, like Marigold24, and you can change it later.

  3. 3

    Two ticks

You’re 18 or older, and you agree to the rules. That’s it.

Opening a few mothers at a time. During the beta we’re opening the community gradually, so it stays safe and kind as it grows.

Mothers who’ve been there, and Nani any hour.

Ask Nani is coming soon to iPhone, Android and the web, free while in beta. Tell her where you are on your journey, and she’ll take it from there.
