About Ask Nani

What is Ask Nani?

Ask Nani is an AI companion for pregnancy and the first years of parenting. It brings together a warm, culturally familiar AI you can talk to any hour, week-by-week guidance, trackers, a calendar with reminders, your reports in one place, and clear safety guidance on when to see a doctor.

Who is Ask Nani for?

Expecting mothers, new parents, and the family around them: partners, mothers and mothers-in-law who want to help. It is built for families in India, with Indian food, customs, health guidelines and emergency numbers in mind.

How is it different from a pregnancy tracker or a general AI chatbot?

A tracker shows you facts about week 24; a general chatbot answers anything, the same way for everyone. Nani does both jobs together and goes further: she knows your week or your baby’s age, your health details and what you’ve logged, answers first and plainly, tells you when something needs a doctor, and never diagnoses or gives medicine doses. She also speaks the way family does, in English, Hindi or Hinglish.

Is Ask Nani free?

Ask Nani launches soon as a free beta. Everything in the app will be free to use while the beta runs.

Which languages does Nani speak?

Nani’s screens are in English or Hindi, and she replies in the language you write to her in, Hinglish too. You can also speak your question instead of typing it.

Using the app

Can I use Ask Nani on my phone?

Yes. Ask Nani is coming soon to iPhone and Android, and to any browser on your phone, tablet or computer. One account will work everywhere.

What can I track?

In pregnancy: your baby’s movements (kick counts), contractions with the 5-1-1 pattern, mood and symptoms, water, and weight. After birth: feeds (with which side is next), sleep, diapers, temperature, growth and milestones, and a crying diary.

Can Nani read my scan and blood test reports?

You can add a photo or PDF of a report and Nani reads the values for you to check: haemoglobin, sugar tests, thyroid, blood pressure and more. She explains what each one means and charts your values across the weeks against your report’s own range. She never diagnoses from a report: your doctor does that.

Does Nani remember what I tell her?

If you let her. Nani can keep short notes from your chats, like what you eat or who helps at home, so you don’t have to repeat yourself. You can see every note, delete any of them, or switch memory off in your profile.

Is there a community of other parents?

Yes: a moderated community where mothers near your stage come first, and mothers further along tell you what’s coming. You post under a nickname; your name, phone, email and city are never shown. Medicine doses, selling and guessing a baby’s sex aren’t allowed, and a post that sounds urgent brings up the help card by itself.

What happens after my baby is born?

Tell Nani your baby has arrived and the app moves with you: the pregnancy screens become your baby’s home, with feeds, sleep, vaccines and milestones. If a pregnancy ends in loss, the app becomes quiet and gentle, with support for you and nothing that reminds you of what was planned.

Safety & medical care

Does Ask Nani replace my doctor?

No, never. Nani gives general, evidence-informed guidance, always alongside your doctor, midwife or paediatrician. She helps you prepare for visits, understand what you’re told, and recognise when to call. Decisions about your care belong with the professionals who examine you.

What does Nani do if something sounds serious?

Some words and symptoms (bleeding, severe headache, blurred vision, reduced movements, a fever in a young baby, thoughts of self-harm) bring up a clear help card straight away: what to do now, a one-tap call to 112, your doctor and labour room, and a WhatsApp message to the family member you chose.

Will Nani tell me which medicine to take, or how much?

No. Nani never prescribes or gives a dose for any medicine. She can explain what a medicine is generally used for and whether it is commonly avoided in pregnancy, then sends you to your doctor for the decision and the amount. The one exception is the usual range for common pregnancy supplements like folic acid and iron, always with the note that your own dose follows your blood tests.

Can Nani tell me if my baby is a boy or a girl?

No. In India, telling or finding out a baby’s sex before birth is against the law (the PCPNDT Act). Nani never tells, guesses or hints at it, and never says how it could be found out. She will gladly tell you how your baby is growing.

Where does Nani’s information come from?

Nani’s guidance is shaped by Indian and international clinical guidance, including FOGSI, WHO and IAP recommendations. The app’s team includes medical reviewers who check answer quality, and Nani is told never to invent a medical fact: if she isn’t sure, she says so and points you to a doctor.

I’m feeling low or anxious. Can Nani help?

Nani will listen, help you with small, practical steps, and gently suggest talking to someone you trust or a professional. If you feel overwhelmed, Tele-MANAS is free and open any time on 14416. If you might harm yourself, call 112 now.

Privacy & your data

Who can see my health information?

Your details are used to shape Nani’s answers for you. You can turn personalisation off, so Nani answers without using your health details, and you choose what she remembers. Staff who work on safety and quality sign in with a password and a code from an authenticator app, and changes to staff access are recorded in an audit log.

Do you use what I write for advertising?

No. If you agree to share anonymous usage, it covers which parts of the app you open, never what you write, your health details, your name or your number. You can change that choice any time in your profile.

How does voice input work?

When you speak, your phone’s speech service (Google, or Apple on iPhone) turns your voice into text on screen. Nothing reaches Nani until you check the words and press send.

Can I delete my data?

Yes. You can delete conversations, forget everything Nani remembers, and manage your account and sessions from your profile.

Nani is almost here.

Ask Nani is coming soon to iPhone, Android and the web, free while in beta. Tell her where you are on your journey, and she’ll take it from there.
